Dear Friends,
There is so much to do at this time of year, and so much preparation to go through. In our Churches we often create things to busy ourselves with - Christingle Services, Carol Services and other such activities. But now should be an opportunity to take stock, have a moment to breathe, and prepare ourselves spiritually for the light of Christ entering our world.
Our Anglian Lectionary takes a double line on Advent, with readings relating both to the original coming of Christ, which we celebrate at Christmas, and to the Final Coming of Christ, which those in the early church looked for, and we should look for too.
There will be those in our congregation who are already wrapped up in Christmas Tinsel even though Advent has only just begun. That is, if they have fallen for the way the world 'does' Christmas they will have been dancing aroiund supermarkets to the bland music sessions of Christmas songs since the summer!
But as a church our task is to help each other both young and old to take a fresh look at the Advent season and prepare for the coming of Christ. Advent is the time God has given us to prepare to celebrate the Birth of Jesus. If we forget Jesus during Advent we will do all our other preparations and work, buying presents and rushing around, but as soon as Christmas passes it will seem like a waste of time. Yet if we spend time meeting with Jesus we will have something worthwhile left after Christmas.
The most important thing to remember concerning the season of Advent is that it is a time to Get Ready for Jesus. So lets start now!
Lets make every effort to be in Church Sunday by Sunday as we prepare for the Coming of Christ.
As this is our last magazine before Christmas may I take this opportunity to wish you all 'A Very Happy Christmas' form all of us here at the Rectory.
Your sincerely
Ken
